Departments

Overview
Departments let you group the people, jobs, and services in your company for reporting, billing, and organization purposes. Once a department is created, you can assign it to jobs, services, and people so activity can be tracked and billed at the department level.
Departments are set up at the company level, under Organization.
Before You Begin
Have the following available:
A name for the department
The customer account the department should bill back to, if applicable
Any external ID or GL code your company uses to sync with accounting or timekeeping systems
Step 1:
Open Departments From the left-hand menu, go to Organization > Departments. This page shows a table of existing departments, along with a search bar to find a specific one. Select + New department in the top right to create a new department.
Step 2:
Create a Department Selecting + New department opens the Department details panel.
Provide:
Department name (required)
Description
Customer account - links the department to the customer it should be billed back to
External ID - maximum 36 characters
GL code
Select Create to save the department. You'll see a confirmation once the department has been created, and it will appear in the Departments table.
Step 3:
Manage Existing Departments From the Departments table, use the search bar to find a specific department by name. Select the ••• menu at the end of a row to edit or delete an existing department.
After Creating a Department
Once a department is created, it becomes available to assign to jobs, services, and people, so pay, billing, and reporting are organized correctly by department.
